Muonio municipality in located on the western border of Finland. Muonio town is the municipal centre of the municipality and is located about 150km North of the Arctic Circle. Muonio river forms the Finnish Swedish border and is the Western edge of Muonio.
Fell Lapland, or Tunturi-Lappi, is an area in Western, Finnish Lapland famous for its high and barren hill landscape for fells. It traverses 4 municipalities, Enontekiö, Muonio, Kittilä, Kolari, and includes the Palläs -Yllästunturi National park.
European road E8 runs South to North along Finland western border. Kolari is Finland’s Northernmost railway station and there are airports at Kittila and Enontekio.
Camping grounds, Cabins and Hotels are located through out the region.
Fell Lapland has 8 seasons. The best time to visit depends on your activity of choice, for example camping, hiking, orienteering, trail running canoeing, fishing, mountain biking, photography, horse riding, skiing, snowmobiling, husky sledding, berry and mushroom picking.
